One size might not fit all! Should audits be more specific when addressing gender issues?

Last year Partner Africa together with Sedex, Co-op and Tesco engaged in a project to evaluate if gender issues could be made more visible within audits and how to address specific needs.

The results In a nutshell are:

a) Improvement of approach is possible and should be promoted during the auditor trainings

b) most of the auditors where capable of addressing gender sensitive areas and were prepared upfront

There is also a recording of a webinar regarding this project to be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LsU_2MyjwM .

And the whole learning paper regarding this project can be found at https://www.partnerafrica.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/PA_LP_Full_Public_270123.pdf .

“The experience was different and very enlightening. Compared to the other audits we conduct, I normally rarely think about the gender aspect – only when discrimination becomes obvious and visible. Now, with the extra questions, it gives you more insights on gender starting from the worker breakdown. It would be good if this is included in the other audits as well.”
