Experts emphasize that restoring this size diversity is achievable within 10 to 20 years—but only if collective action is taken. Effective strategies include expanding marine protected areas and reforming fisheries regulations to prioritize medium-sized fish, allowing larger breeding fish to remain in the wild and replenish stocks. As the University of Tasmania reported, winning back these massive fish isn't just symbolic; it restores the foundational balance of marine ecosystems. Encouragingly, several tuna species have already rebounded under stricter quotas and enforcement, proving that well-managed fisheries can deliver meaningful recovery.
