Malta to ban on sale of single-use plastic products

Following the banning of imports of single-use plastic products last January, the Government has now announced that it will also stop the sale of these products in Malta.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change stated that from 2022 it will ban the sale of ‘single use plastics’  with the aim of strengthening environment and reduce pollution.

The Government reminded that Malta was among the first countries to ban the import of various single-use plastic products, and from this year the government is taking another step by prohibiting the distribution and sale of the same goods.

This law will affect plastic cutlery and plates, cotton buds, balloon sticks, jablo cups and beverage containers, as well as straws and stirrers.
