So we've made the first step in preventing marine life recently with the ban of plastic straws but this isn't the only thing that plagues our aquatic friends. For a long time the six-pack rings that hold together our drinks have found their way into the water often causing harm to marine life. The use of these rings seemed efficient with minimal packaging needed. However Coors Light, one of the biggest beer brands in America is investing $85 million to convert their packaging to a sustainable cardboard-wrap this year. By the end of 2025 they hope to make this change to their whole North American portfolio. Given the size of the company it could save 400,000 pounds of single-use plastic entering our landfills each year. It's amazing how a change that seems so small could have such a large impact on the environment. Coors Light hopes to light the way in eliminating single-use packaging from the market in North America. They hope there competition follows suit and with the push to become greener as a society it only makes sense for others to do so. Plastic straws, and now plastic rings - hopefully as a society we can continue to find areas that we can improve to save our wildlife that may seem small at first but really make a big difference.
